Velumani was born in April 1959 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. As he belongs to a poor and humble family. Where his father did not have a piece of land in Appanaickenpatti Pudur.

On the other hand, his mother was running the house with two rearing buffaloes. 

So, the Arokiaswamy Velumain family was run by his mother’s hard work. Then the family had 5 children and Velumani is the elder one.

 Arokiaswamy Velumani’s mother is strong and bold. Because even though there was a lot of poverty in the family still she managed to educate all his 5 children.

So, Arokiaswamy Velumani had understood the pathetic situation about the family. As a result, he did not a quality education at an early age. As he joined the government school in Coimbatore.

There was a lot of difficulty in having one time meal. So, Arokiaswamy Velmani went to school to have a piece of mid-day meal. So, mid-day meals encourage him to go to school.

Consequently, there was a lot of struggle in the early stages of life. Firstly, he did not get any access to the outside of the quality of education. But he never lacks confidence and zeal to explore new things in his life.

However, Arokiaswamy Velumani completed his graduation with a B.sc degree. As it was inspiring a boy of a poor family went on to complete an honorable degree.

He did his BSc at Ramakrishna Mission Vidayala (now University of Madras) in 1978. At the age of 19, Velumani had a degree certificate.

 

Then after completing his graduation, he got a job at Gemini capsuled a small pharmaceutical company. During those times he got a salary of rupees 150 per month.

Subsequently, after three years the company shut down due to some financial issues. So, Arokiaswamy Velumani was jobless. It was too difficult for him to run a family.

Then he did not have any option, so went to Mumbai in search of a job. Finally, he reached Mumbai with 500 rupees in this pocket.

First three days in Mumbai he slept in the railway station. Because he was just blank and did not have an idea to move one.

Then he got an interview for a government job with his degree. As it turned down to be a terrible experience for Thyrocare founder Arokiaswamy Veumani.

In one of the questions, the interviewer asked Velumani to show the body part for the root cause of the Thyroid

As Velumani was bright at physics and Mathematics. So, he did not know the simple basic question related to biology.

Eventually, Velumani pointed his knees to show the root cause of the Thyroid.  

So, in this way, Arokiaswamy Velumani had the most embarrassing moment in his life.

Finally, he got the job at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) as a laboratory assistant.

Then Velumani went on to do his job for the next 14 years in BARC, Mumbai. During those 14 years, he completed his Masters as well.

Arokiaswamy Velumani never forgot the terrible experience at the interview. So he took it has the challenge to have in-depth knowledge of the thyroid. 

Consequently, he did his Ph.D. in Thyroid in the next 10 years. From 1982 to 1992 Velumani did a lot of research in the field of Thyroid.

Then he got promoted to the Radiation Memorial Hospital in Parel, Mumbai.

Life was going well enough. By then he got married to Sumathi a State Bank of India employee. Both was having a well-settled life and had two beautiful children.

One day, Veulmani went through self-realization. As he questions himself

  1. Why did I come to Mumbai?
  2. If he had to get a simple job then why did I Struggle a lot?

Then Velumani had a lot of confusion going around in his mind. Even he did not want to continue his job. Instead, he had to do something different to achieve the milestone.

Finally, he quits his job to start a new career at the age of 40s.

His wife Sumathi also left her job to support her husband on the new journey.

Success Story of Thyrocare

Arokiaswamy Velumani was busy finding the nice for his new business. Then he got the idea to start his business with Thyroid related issues. Because he did his Ph.D. in Thyroid for 10 years and also had huge knowledge.

Then Arokiaswamy Velumnain found that exploitation of the laboratory in the case of thyroid patients. To check the Thyroid, the laboratory charges around 500.

As the reagent used during the testing charges only rupees 50. So, from 50 rupees, laboratories are doing exploitation to the people.

So, Arokaswamy Velumani took it as a challenge and desire to give affordable prices. In 1996, he started Throcare in Byculla, Mumbai. 

Thyrocare Laboratory brought major changes. As the laboratory chared less than 50 rupees for testing thyroid. As it was a major step taken by Thyrocare founder Arokiaswamy Velumani.

Velumani took this major step to give affordable services to the people. Then a lot of other hospitals and laboratories were just criticizing the services of Thyrocare.

Meanwhile, the marketing of Thyrocare was done by their competitors. Finally, Throcare was successful in making a huge impact in the industry.

Now, there are over 1122 Thyrocare centers across different states in India. Even the company also values over 3000 crores in the Indian market.

In this way, a small boy from Tamil Nadu went to become Thryocare founder. It was a truly inspirational story for the youths.
